How Does Project Work Prepare Students for Their Future Careers?

The rapid development of AI, robotics, biomedical technology, and new communication platforms is swiftly transforming our lives, continuously reshaping human perception. In this context, to master our careers, lives, and relationships, we need more than the skills currently cultivated in today’s educational institutions.

With the rapid shift to remote work, employers and managers are grappling with the challenge of work efficiency, often collaborating with individuals halfway around the globe. The swift evolution of AI, computer science, biomedical technology, materials science, etc., poses a challenge to grasp these technologies and scientific platforms to address increasingly complex global issues. Modern business owners and managers must adapt their management styles to leverage scientific and technological advancements, as well as changes in human awareness and work habits.

Conversely, scientists and engineers must not only focus on solving specific problems but also learn how to apply specific solutions to broader contexts or determine the impact of powerful technological trends and global shifts in addressing these issues.

In the face of such rapid change, what we learn becomes the foundation for our confidence in acquiring new knowledge and mastering our own work. According to the World Economic Forum [1], the following skills:

  • Analytical Thinking and Innovation
  • Active Learning and Learning Strategies
  • Complex Problem Solving
  • Critical Thinking and Analysis
  • Creativity, Originality, and Initiative
  • Technology Use, Monitoring, and Control
  • Problem Solving and Idea Articulation

are among the top 10 skills for 2025, enabling us not only to adapt but also to create opportunities to take charge of our careers, lives, and relationships. Critical thinking and problem-solving have consistently been highlighted in skill reports from 2016 to the present.

The best opportunity for students still in the classroom to develop these skills is direct participation in projects that address real and complex problems, demanding high levels of self-management and the application of various skills.
